Jason and I were walking toward the Chinese restaurant today, and I pointed out a sign on the side of a Church: "You are the salt of the Earth."

"What does that mean?" Jason asked. "That God intends to eat the Earth, but wants to flavour it a bit?"

"Yum," I said in my best God-like voice, "Earth. Humph. Needs people."

"I guess that's the meaning of life," Jason said. "We're a condiment."

Mmmm.....Salty.

(/homer)

Actually, way back when, I kinda wondered if people were the white-cells or the anti-bodies of the universe. Now, I sometimes wonder if we're the parasite/infection. I've seen both sides done as stories...

I've wondered about that, because salting the Earth is what armies would do to poison it, to make it so nothing would grow there. So being the salt of the Earth would seem to mean being poison. Is that supposed to be a *good* thing?

The humans-as-food (or condiments) theory makes sense, though, especially in light of all the sheep references in Christianity. I can't understand why Christians like to think of themselves as sheep. Sure, the shepherd is nice to the sheep and takes care of them... but is he doing that for the good of the sheep? No! He's doing it so he can use them for their wool, and then butcher them and eat them!
