[livejournal.com profile] the_siobhan and I are in Las Vegas. At the Luxor. We're surrounded by the most garishly decadent faux-Egyptian stuff you can imagine. Everytime I see hieroglyphics on the walls I find myself wondering is Tam could read them. I'm certain some decorator decided to write nasty messages in Egyptian hieroglyphs. "Go ahead! Gamble your fortunes away, you useless jackasses!"

Tonight we're seeing blue men.

I think the Luxor is kinda fun; but my heart belongs to the Mirage. (Bellagio's got a better poker room, but the ambience gets up my nose.)

Oh yeah? Why the Mirage, if you don't mind my asking?

Yeah, I thought they were incredible. A really unique show. Piping, Jell-O, art, twinkies, drums, neon rodeo cowboys, tissue paper, audience volunteers, marshmellows, and LED signage. Amazing stuff.

Are you surrounded by pseudo-Egyptian techno music? There was an ad for the Luxor on often in LA a few years back that had this (actually really good) Egyptian style drum and bass-y kind of thing going on. I swore I'd go if only they'd play that stuff all the time. :)

Not that I recall hearing. Perhaps Siobhan noticed something of the sort (she's much more likely to spot the music in any given environment).

Afraid not. I would have liked that.

Kev and I don't gamble, smoke or drink

...so, you can imagine how much we enjoyed LV while we were there. And even us Americans get sick of stuffing our faces at buffets after a while. ;) [However, I do recommend the buffet at the Paris, as long as neither of you is a vegan.]

Also, if you've never seen Cirque du Soleil before, this is a good town in which to do it.
Oh, and follow the Polynesians around. They're the only ones who seem to be GENUINELY having fun.

Have fun on the road of excess,

Kathy L.

She refered to them as Stargate-type hieroglyphs. heh.

The Empress near Joliet is pretty garish too she tells me, but I haven't been there yet. I do want to go eventually. Haven't been to a big casino in almost seven years since I lived near Atlantic City.

While the two of you were enjoying Luxor (where my parents stayed when they were in Vegas in June 2002), my parentals were staying up the Strip at Circus Circus. Alas, I've yet to experience Vegas. *sigh* Perhaps one day, if I ever have money again.
