I recently got a new microwave. It has a potato button.

When I was more active on Tumblr, I'd frequently see a meme lovingly gushing about microwaves with a potato button, and I'd think, "Huh. I've never had a microwave with a potato button. The very idea is weird!"

Those days are gone now.

My microwave has mac & cheese, hot dog, and chicken nugget buttons, none of which are of any use to me. Whereas a microwave with a potato button would conceivably be of at least some use to me.

Mine has a "potato" setting, but it tends to overcook baked potatoes, so I do what I always do: set it for about 5 minutes for one, and 6 minutes for two.

What is this witchcraft? Mine has a dial for "how hot" and another for "how long" and that's it. Excuse me while I finish tapping my letter of complaint into this stone tablet.

Amazing. We frequently microwave one medium or two small potatoes to add to bombay bhel. It's a lot easier than any other cooking method...
