I can't help but think this is a terrible idea.

I think there's a non-trivial chance that the film is going to be terrible. But I'll see it anyway.

Same. But the trailer made me cringe.

I hear you. Part of the problem is, I'm sure, the classic Hollywood problem that studios only know how to make trailers for about 8 standard film types and if the story doesn't fit one of those standard film types then they hafta figure out how to make the story seem like one of those eight.

And there was stuff that seemed really off about some of the characters, too. Arkedina/Annette Benning seems far too reasonable, for example. But Chekhov always fancied that he'd written a comedy and it was nice to see that they found some of the little comedic moments in the story.
