I’m always surprised to see Wisconsin show up as borderline in electoral vote poll-tracking sites. Admittedly, I really only hang out in Madison (and, really, mostly in WisCon), but I always have an impression of it as a nice lefty haven of the American mid-west.

Yeah, Madison is really, really liberal compared to the rest of the state. Even some people who live here (in Madison) were taken aback when Walker won, but it's not terribly surprising?

There's Madison and Milwaukee, and a couple of other liberal pockets.
But there are many other staunchly conservative pockets which have always been conservative.
The Republican Party was founded in Wisconsin.

We really are about 50/50 right now.
Much of the rest of the state looks at Madison with some disdain, for being "a liberal cesspool."
