I keep reflecting on aspects of Jack's funeral. Speakers of multiple faiths gave blessings. The minister referred to his husband. And praised Jack for his work seeking equality for transgendered people.

Stuff like this is part of my 'normal'. My community, my friends... they accept this as obvious and right. And I almost don't notice how important it is that the funeral for the leader of a major political party would include these things.

Oh yes. That's like when I realised the next day that the candlelight memorial thing here for Jack hadn't had any religion in it and I hadn't noticed because it felt normal.

But that's a way more powerful example.

I was quite touched by Jack's funeral, and for many of the same reasons. While I'm fairly strongly apolitical, I did find myself wishing I'd paid more attention to his mission when he was alive, even if it wasn't so explicitly stated.
