Sort of.

I think of it as a kind of activist retreat - where I don't have to deal with the general population and at least some things are agreed upon. The baseline is a little different. And, in the meantime, there is still education and perspective broadening and new connections.

Does that make sense?

Just what I was going to say. Not an activist event so much as an event for activists.

Yeah, "Not an activist event so much as an event for activists," was exactly how I was going to put it also. :)

I do, in the sense that holding it at all is an act of political activism.

I haven't been, so lump of salt.

I don't believe in yes/no states.

When compared to other SF cons, it's one of, if not the, most activist.

For white privileged people, it seems to be quite activist, whereas for PoC (and possibly for trans and other minorities?) it seems it can be not activist enough - too many clueless white people and too much basic having to educate.

I'd expect this would be true of most activist events though, it must be hard to have everyone present be on the same page.

For myself, I view education as a form of activism. Dunno if that's self-serving or not, dunno if increasing understanding counts as taking action. But by that definition, it feels like Wiscon is activist. I feel activist when I'm educating people about trans issues (not a frequent occurrence, but it happens).
