Thwarted by Math
Mar. 9th, 2011 12:47 pmAnd it looks like a write-off. My sexy Prius is over 10 years old, now, and the cost to fix exceeds the value of the car.
Damage is all in the rear. The base of the trunk has been dented to the extent that the trunk no longer closes.
Ironically, I'd originally planned to have the car for 10 years, and then replace it. Then when I hit the 10 year mark last December, I saw no reason to replace it. I was gonna try for 15 years. Now... hm... sad. Ozma has been a good car.

Date: 2011-03-09 11:04 pm (UTC)insurers will write stuff off based on the "book" value rather than the actual value. you can often argue them up by showing that your instance of this car is particularly well-maintained. i've helped folks do this in the past by looking for comparable prices on autotrader etc. instead of just the "book".
there might be insufficient data on 10-y-o priuses for this technique to work, though...
all that said... i'm sorry for your loss :(
