I generally like to see all the major films that have been nominated for an Oscar. But I don't think I can watch 127 Hours.

On the other hand, Winter's Bone is harsh and depressing as hell, but I have no problem watching it. And even though I haven't yet seen Christian Bale's turn in The Fighter, I'm pretty sure that I favour John Hawkes for Best Supporting Actor. Jennifer Lawrence is also damn good, but I haven't seen enough of the competing performance for Best Actress.

I wasn't keen on 127 hours but I ended up enjoying it a fair bit. Don't forget that it's a Danny Boyle film, so there's some cinematic style to enjoy there for its own sake. The crucial scene is painful to watch, but Boyle really manages to do a good job between giving you a full sense of the situation while showing you only the minimum necessary. You can also close your eyes for 4 minutes, and enjoy the rest of the film. :)
