Partially because I didn't have class this weekend, and partially because I was reading Zot and admiring all the wonderful black-and-white artwork, I decided to sit down and play around with cross-hatching.

While it's far from perfect, I was really happy with the way it turned out. I wouldn't say that I'm good at it, but I feel like I advanced a level. I've never really been happy with any black-and-white shading that I've tried in the past. I'd like to try this again.

Anyway, here's a scan of the piece.

The images are all from photo reference. I think I'm far too much in love with overuse of solid black. Having put so much black into panel two, I needed lots of tone in the lower left to give it balance. I'm not 100% in love with the background of that panel, but hey. I really enjoyed experimenting with a style on the image of Donovan. One minute I would think it was working, and then I'd think it was sucking, and then I'd think it was working again.

I quite like this. For the record, I think the solid black in panel 2 really works, but I'm goth, so I'm a little biased...

It's great work.

There are still crosses in front of the church at Santa Clara University to remember the people my government had murdered down there.

I think you had a deft hand at handling the dark content and the crosshatching.

I do look forward to more!

I am stunned with the beauty of this piece, both visually and thematically.
