Niftily, Jed Hartman has a cool essay about sexual minorities in science fiction:

Whenever I read such a work, it makes me wonder why the fictional society of the far future is less sexually diverse than early-21st-century America. Where are the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, intersexed, polyamorous, or kinky people?

Glad you liked it! Btw, part of the reason for running it this month was that we're hoping to run a certain story that you may be familiar with late in the month (I'll be sending you edits when I can, but am still way behind on that); I thought about mentioning that we were going to be running a relevant story soon, but forgot to actually do so.
