This picture, looking south, shows one of the two existing buildings that are going to be a key part of the new Chocolate Company Loft complex. This one was once an actual chocolate company (which, I figure, is great karma). The building is five stories tall. The roof has been removed to add a sixth story to the top.
I'm not actually in that eastern building. I'm in the next one over. This picture shows part of the building that I'm in. I'm looking south, and eventually this view will be completely obscured by a new glass-box facade. (Which is a pity, 'cause the brick is more interesting than a glass box will be). This building was originally four stories tall, and they're building two more stories on top of it. You can't see it, but the top floor has the same decorative brick pattern you can see at the top of the first picture. But in this case, that wall is gonna be enclosed with more building. I wonder if someone's gonna get that as exposed brick in their condo.
This is a picture of the other side of the same building, looking north. My condo is right on the corner there. That electrical cable is running in through my window.
I think it's neat how they've already added a fifth story to the building using original brick. It's a pretty good job. The penthouse is gonna be glass box, so it won't really match the rest. Because they took the original roof off, the ceilings in the fourth floor are made out of corrugated iron. The ceilings on my floor are made of thick wooden slats. I really like the ceiling.

When I bought it, they were talking about November 2003. Now they're saying March, 2004. I'm betting on June 2004.
