Here's a scan of my comics homework.
page 1
page 2

We were required to do two pages, but we could write our own text, and choose our own medium. We were kinda encouraged to use colour, and I've been interested to try a monochrome treatment for a while.

While I was sketching out my initial story, I was reading RaceFail, and doing some interesting Haiti things, so those were probably influences.

The scanning process kinda robs the images of a lot of clarity. In particular, the crispness of the lines is really lost.

There are elements of the rough version that worked out better: I think the likeness of Aristide is better in the rough version. And the vehicle on the top of page 2.

While I was doing some research, I discovered that someone has posted photos of the room in which Louverture died.

Wow. I remember the last set of homeworks you posted, and these ones are just as emotionally compelling, but much more subtle in the artwork.

That's really marvelous. The second page is particularly arresting.

Your work has seriously developed from the last time I saw anything you did (way back you did a queer friendly anthro thing I remember).

I like the monochrome treatment as well. It seems richer and more atmospheric almost noir.

The weakest part seems to me to be the placement and composition of figures in the available "space" of some panels. Their perspective seems off to me, that said it's better than where I'm at lately.

Great job BC! *hugs!*

Cool! I didn't realize how good an artist you were. I look forward to more.

I've been reading comic book regularly, every day (wow, I just realized that fact) since I was 4 years old. Because of that long history I have instinct for competency in comics. You got it. I am not being polite, I mean it. Well done. (-:

I want to read the rest of it. If those were the first 2 pages of a graphic novel I was flipping through at the bookstore I would definitely buy it.

I can remember a time when your title would have been a Googlewhack, if there had been Googlewhacks back then.

This is awesome. Are you going to do an entire comic eventually?

I really think this is very well-done. It made me want to read an graphic novel that stems from these panels.
