General # 5 (Sounds like a Time Lord)
Apr. 4th, 2009 05:34 pmThe United Nations has named another Brazilian general as the new commander of its peacekeeping force in Haiti.
Maj. Gen. Floriano Peixoto Vieira Neto is taking command of the 9,000-member international force on April 9. His appointment by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon was announced Thursday.
He is the fifth Brazilian to lead the mission since it began in the wake of a 2004 rebellion that ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. He served earlier in Haiti as an operations officer and is currently a sub-chief of staff of the Brazilian army.
He replaces Brazilian Maj. Gen. Carlos Alberto Dos Santos Cruz, who has led the force since 2007.
