On Friday, the country's provisional electoral council published a list disqualifying 40 of 105 individuals who registered as candidates. Among those whose candidacies for Parliament were not accepted: all 17 members of former President Jean-Bertrande Aristide's Fanmi Lavalas political party and Guy Philippe, the leader of an armed revolt that led to Aristide's departure in 2004.
