Movie Meme!

firecat reminded me that I haven't done this meme:
01. Name a movie that you have seen more than 10 times:
I've seen a lot of movies more than 10 times. For example, I watch Casablanca every New Year's Eve. But many of my favourites, like The Shawshank Redemption or Annie Hall, I just watch again and again.
02. Name a movie that you've seen multiple times in a theatre:
The movie I've seen the most times in the theatre is The Silence of the Lambs. Partially, it became a ritual with a friend that I was getting close to at the time. Partially, we were fascinated by the ways that it defied our expectations of what the film would be. And it's a damn good movie, too. I think, in the end, we saw it eleven times in the theatre. And I have a copy of it on DVD. I couldn't bring myself to watch Hannibal.
nellorat made some good comments about the book version of Hannibal just prior to the film's release, and she partially redeemed the book for me. But, ugh.
03. Name an actor that would make you more inclined to see a movie:
Tilda Swinton. Alan Rickman. Don Cheadle. They usually choose interesting scripts. I think the director has a lot more to do with how I feel about a movie.
04. Name an actor that would make you less likely to see a movie:
Adam Sandler. Pauly Shore.
05. Name a movie that you can quote from:
I can quote from a lot of films. I often embrace quotations and reuse them in my day-to-day speech. "Hope is a good thing, Red." Or, "He tasks me. He tasks me, and I shall have him." Or, "We can walk to the curb from here." I know the dialogue from The Silence of the Lambs, Annie Hall and The Godfather backward and forward. And, hey, isn't it a badge of geek pride to be able to quote from The Princess Bride? Or Office Space?
06. Name a movie musical that you know all the lyrics to all the songs:
Hm. I think that only The Rocky Horror Picture Show qualifies. I'm not big on musicals. Oh, wait. Across the Universe probably counts, even though I was very disappointed by the film. The visuals were great but with that history to draw on, why did it just end up being a love story? Is all it had to say merely "Love, love, love?"
07. Name a movie that you have been known to sing along with:
Nothing leaps to mind.
08. Name a movie that you would recommend everyone see:
There are a lot of divergent tastes in "everyone". But if I had to make so general a recommendation, it'd probably be a documentary like The Fog of War.
09. Name a movie that you own:
I own a lot of films. Sans Soleil and Contact and Blade Runner.
10. Name an actor that launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops:
Cher? (Does Sydney Pollack count?)
11. Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in?
Yeah, when I was a kid. Personally, I think it's a terrible way to see a film.
12. Ever made out in a movie?
And miss parts of the movie?
13. Name a movie that you keep meaning to see but just haven't gotten around to it:
The Court Jester? Piglet recommended The Spanish Prisoner, but I haven't tracked down a copy.
14. Ever walked out of a movie?
No. There are two movies I almost walked out of, but in the end, didn't. The first was a Nicholas Cage film, Vampire's Kiss. Early in the film, when I thought it was a literal vampire movie, I found it badly executed. Once I realized that the vampire story was entirely metaphoric, I thought it was brilliant. The other film I almost walked out of was the Robert Di Niro remake of Cape Fear. There's a rape scene in the film that horrific to watch. I've come around to the idea that all rape scenes in movies should be horrific to watch. But, man, I wasn't prepared for that scene.
15. Name a movie that made you cry in the theater:
Hotel Rwanda.
16. Popcorn?
Yes
17. How often do you go to the movies?
These days, I don't go to the movies very often. That big stretch of commercials at the beginning is annoying and the theatre is usually too cold. I watch a lot of DVDs. A lot.
18. What's the last movie you saw in the theater?
The Dark Knight, if you're thinking about commercial releases. 7915 km, if you include the film festival.
19. What is your favourite/preferred genre of movie?
I like a lot of different genres. I just want the film to have something to say. I think I've been enjoying documentaries a lot, lately.
20. What was the first movie you remember seeing in the theater?
Huh. That's a toughie. I remember seeing Pinocchio at a young age, which was almost certainly during the 1971 re-release. I'd have been 4 or 5. I'm sure there were others. I remember What's up Doc? (1972) and a number of films of that era much more clearly. I'm pretty sure that I saw a re-release of the highly problematic Song of the South somewhere in that time frame as well. I can't remember which Herbie movie I saw first. The Love Bug is 1969 (I'd have been two or three). More likely it was Herbie Rides Again in 1974.
21. What movie do you wish you had never seen?
As a Serious Film Student, I'm not supposed to admit that I wish I had never seen any of Jean-Luc Godard's films. And the key thing I think about Ivan the Terrible (Parts 1 and 2) are, "There's five hours of my life that I'll never get back!" And that damned Michael Snow film where he spends 30 minutes moving the camera from one side of the room to the other. Ugh!
22. What is the weirdest movie you enjoyed?
Weird in what way? I mean, I like a quirky film like The Linguini Incident. And Meshes in the Afternoon is brilliant. Sans Soleil is one of my top three films.
23. What is the scariest movie you've ever seen?
Scary movies aren't really my thing. Possibly Alien?
24. What is the funniest movie you've ever seen?
When I first saw it, I thought Annie Hall was just brilliant. "Well, that's funny, because I happen to have Mr. McLuhan right here, so..."
