Falls Mainly on the Plain
Sep. 17th, 2008 04:39 pmThe rain the last few days has been pretty intense. There was a major thunderstorm last night, possibly even worse than the one on Monday night.
Me, I got spooked and came home early. My overall commute, here, is about an hour. I walk a few blocks down a mostly dirt and gravel road to Delmas 33, and catch a tap-tap. The tap-tap takes me to Delmas, and I walk down Delmas until I get to Delmas 17. Then I catch another tap-tap and go down to the Champs de Mars. (What would that be in kreyòl? Chanp de mar?) Then I walk six or seven blocks to the building where I'm working. There are a lot of inclines in that trip, and there's a lot of opportunity to get wet.
On Monday night, when it rained, it was hard to get tap-taps, and the trip was pretty miserable. I came home early afternoon on Tuesday, so I missed Tuesday night's rain. It rained this afternoon, but it doesn't look like it's gonna be a storm. I hope that this weather is going to pass. I've never experienced this much rain in Haiti, I must confess. The weather, here, is usually so beautiful.
