there has been a real change recently... movies like these are increasingly being done "right". maybe it's just a matter of the best, most intelligent fans having finally matured into being the available directors and producers? i don't know, but i'm loving it.

i believe... i *believe*... that this is not going to disappoint.

Watch the trailer? I'm not some Republic serial fan -- I watched the trailer thirty-five minutes ago.

I never read the graphic novels, so the trailer doesn't give me enough information to know what to expect from the story, although it certainly looks interesting. My biggest reaction to it though was, "Wow, that entire film is probably only 17 minutes long when played at actual speed. I wonder how they manage to pack in a story *and* all that slow-mo." :)

The most interesting character is Dr. Manhattan (the big blue guy). He's the only member of the group with actual superpowers, and they are god-like (and he was a watchmaker prior to his transformation into a God...perhaps a little heavy-handed on the analogy). The opening premise of the story is that if such a being were to come into existence, it would change the course of history. Regular comic books can't do that, because then they would all enter the realm of science fiction. Watchmen went outside the regular comic continuity, and created its own alternate universe version of 1985, where the U.S. won in Vietnam, Nixon is still President, and the world is on the brink of a nuclear confrontation.

I tentatively approve. I don't like that they give away some of the final scenes, but then, if you haven't read the book already, it isn't obvious what's going on.

It was a very good trailer and for me a surprise, I did not know it was going to be shown with the Dark Knight. A few peeps in the crowd clapped when it came on.
