I really like Jory Nash, a cool Toronto-area folk musician. But every time I hear these lyrics in "Prisoner's Lament", I cringe:

There was disaster when I was young
I stepped on a spider and I got stung
Now I'm a poor boy, soon to be hung
There was disaster when I was young

Twitch. Twitch.

Folk music isn't supposed to have good lyrics. :P

Have you ever heard Tom Lehrer's version of "Clementine"? On his album "An Evening Wasted With Tom Lehrer," he said folk songs are "so atrocious because they're written 'by the people'."
