During the next few years, [Alexa] McDonough's leadership of the [NDP] party elicited controversy. She was widely seen within the NDP as trying to pull the party toward the centre of the political spectrum, in the Third Way mode of Tony Blair

She's also widely regarded among the Haiti activists I know as the most obstructionist in terms of trying to get Haiti on the NDP agenda. Well, now she's out of the picture.

She's a funny person. While she probably singlehandedly got Peter Stoffer and Yvon Godin into parliament (and both of them pretty much have their seats until the day they die), all of her other Atlantic victories have reverted to the other parties, and Halifax is very likely to go the same way. Meanwhile, the federal party no longer exists anywhere from Kenora clean through to Burnaby. (It's true that Layton lost those seats, but she ran two elections focusing on other parts of the country. Even Audrey McG figured out that it was time to circle the wagons and focus on Saskatchewan when things got really grim.)
