firecat writes some interesting stuff about teh intersectionality matter. I think that her points are very important, and I want to think about and write about them a bit more.
firecat, for the record, has taught me a great deal about fat activism, and I am indebted to her for that.

Date: 2008-03-26 01:19 am (UTC)As a tangent, something came to mind when I was thinking about this: Is the Trans community itself too obsessed with beauty? I have been fortunate that being a larger t-person I have not run into a great deal of overt "wow she's fat", kinds of things, although I have of course run into the whole pass/do not pass thing. I wonder though if there isn't maybe some inborn prejudice: everyone wants to be the beauty queen or king.
Oh well just me rambling as usual I guess.0

It's part of the reason we backed out - that, and the whole "my surgeon would totally beat yours in a cage match" thing.
