Canada has decided to sidestep the corrupt Afghan government and ensure the safety of Canadian soldiers by paying Afghan police directly, in cash.

— "Canadians pay to bolster Afghan security", The Globe and Mail

Don't worry. There's no chance that kind of situation will be abused.

That sounds very much like they're bribing people not to kill them.

You can tell it's an American puppet government, because anyone else would have done a better job.

Well, your government sucks in the shadow of my government's unbelievable suckage.

That being said, I'm reading When Fox Was a Woman by Larissa Lai, and I was a little taken aback when the Canadian characters were talking about their government exactly the way disaffected American lefties would talk about our government pre-Dubya.

The "corrupt" Afghan government? You mean that wonderful freely-elected democratic government that the US installed and is propping up? It's corrupt? With a former Unocal exec at its head? Well knock me over with a feather! ;)
