Film Festival film #4 and #5
Sep. 9th, 2007 02:43 pmNote to self: no more films before 10 in the morning.
Slept really badly last night, and then went to see XXY this morning. XXY is an Argentinian film about intersexuality, and it's quite beautifully filmed. Alex, the intersexed teen, is exceptionally well-portrayed by Inés Efron. I think it might have benefited from a touch more humour, but overall, I'd say it's an excellent film.
This afternoon, I saw Darfur Now, a documentary showing different events relating to the crisis in Darfur. It's a well-done film, compellingly stitched together. While I think that a lot of the appeal from the film will come from Don Cheadle's role as an activist (as well as George Clooney's small role), I think that the people who really shine in the film are Adam Sterling, a California activist, and Luis Moreno-Ocampo, an international war crimes prosecutor in The Hague. Despite the topic, it manages to remind everyone that things are possible.
I have another film on Darfur later today.
