These pictures suggest some of the contrast that I see regularly in Haiti:

This is the road, north of Gonayiv. I wrote about the partially-constructed section of highway; you can see the supports sitting, abandoned, beside the actual road. The black dot on one of the supports is a goat finding a nice place to sit.

This is a fishing boat on the ocean in the early morning near Pòdepè.

Is that the same as Pòdpè (Port-de-Paix in French)?

Yes. Both spellings appear to be valid.

Yeah. In French at least both pronunciations are correct too. I guess the same thing carried over to creole.
