My Employers Are Really Crunchy Granola Types

Late last week, the company I work at won another Bicycle Friendly Business Award. The company has picked up a few of these over the years. This year we got the "Best Bicycle Parking Facilities" award. We have an indoor bike parking area, with separate entrance, shower and locker facilities.

I scanned down the list of nominees, and I noticed that the vast majority of other nominees were businesses oriented around "outdoors" activities (such as Mountain Equipment Co-op), non-profits (such as Children's Aid), or bicycle-oriented organizations. I'm pretty sure we're the only tech company on the list.

I'm envious! We have one bike rack in the parking garage, and it's broken so that you can only lock three bikes to it. It's in a big parking garage and there are no cameras or monitoring where it is. I've had components stolen from there. Our building has no shower or locker facilities, nor does our company. Our company is remodelling and they put forward a number of things in a questionnaire to see what people wanted -- one was a shower / change facility. Apparently myself and the president were the only two people who ticked that item off, so they're not going to go through with it, due to lack of interest.

Axel managed to get a shower built in the building where we work. Our goal is to get the company at least on the nominees list.
