During House last night, a commercial came on. For Lotto Super 7.

[livejournal.com profile] bcholmes That reminds me. I have a lottery ticket I haven't checked.
[livejournal.com profile] the_siobhan Oh?
[livejournal.com profile] bcholmes Yeah. If I don't check it for a few days more, I can keep fantasizing that I won the really big jackpot.
[livejournal.com profile] the_siobhan If you're talking about the $30 million dollar jackpot, nobody won it.
[Pause]
[livejournal.com profile] bcholmes I think maybe you weren't really listening to me just now.

Oh, that sounds too familiar. I think I had that conversation last month.

But I still have the ticket in my wallet (it is for a different lottery and I'm not telling which one) so I might have still won some $100,000 or so.

I think she means nobody claimed the prize yet, so if your ticket is the right one then you don't have to share the $30 million with anyone else.

I won a free ticket, but I plan on winning half of the jackpot this Friday night just so I can do what I want to do with my life for a change. You can win the other half, k?

I just realised something. I think that big mirror-gazing revelation the other day? I now see myself as I see you (settled, happy, woman). I think I've been aspiring to it. :)

Odd. Cool, but odd.

Not you, I mean, the phenomenon. :)

Oh, no, I'm odd. That's certain.

But I'm happy for you, too.

Y'know, thinking on this more, it's well-known and talked about when soldiers come back after the war, and it's hard to adjust and get back to life and sometimes there's real post-traumatic stress and all the people who weren't in the war might not initially understand what's going on with the soldier, but at least if they eventually hear that that's what's going on. And know that there's adjustment time and all, and sometimes there are scars that never heal.

Transfolk, we get to the place that makes us whole and we think: "that's it; it's all easy now." And yet, it takes time.

Yes, that's it exactly.

Somehow, I knew you'd know. :)

Another friend brought this topic up. She said that she views herself (and me) as mountain climbers. We have reached a summit and now must climb down. And she suggested that we are not likely to be comfortable in the valley for long and will be looking for another mountain after a bit. I had been complaining of a pernicious malaise and feeling of being adrift, without overall purpose.

In fact - might I quote this in my own LJ? I suspect there are a number of people who would find this analogy quite useful.
