One of the things that I love about the Kindred Spirits retreat is the food. We stay at a little inn in the small town of Hot Springs, North Carolina, and they serve the most mouthwatering vegetarian dishes that I've ever tasted.

But I didn't really get to taste them this year. Although I told them in advance that I couldn't have garlic or lime, they seemed to have forgotten, and I didn't get to eat most of the main dishes they served. By the third night, I was pretty disheartened. I watched my friends eating this wonderful nut paté baked in bread with a mushroom sauce. Me, I had a cold plate. The first night, dessert was key lime pie. That's pretty unambiguously on the "can't have" list.

I've been jonesing for pizza like you wouldn't believe. I even made my own pizza the other night, I'm craving it so much. I made sure that my pizza had no garlic in it. But I'm still craving.

It's thirteen days (including today) until my desann kolye. My whole project team is counting down the days with me.

So... I'm confused. Reading back through your journal it seems that when you were in Haiti you took part in some sort of ritual which is the reason for these restrictions... but you haven't posted anything about the ritual. Did you go to Haiti for the specific reason of going through this ritual, or did you go there just because you thought it was an interesting place and found out about the ritual there? What do all the terms that you're using (desann kolye and so on) mean? How has this ritual affected your thinking on various things that you've been mentioning in your journal, such as this (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=bcholmes&itemid=17909) and this (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=bcholmes&itemid=19576)?

The answers to some of these questions may be too personal to share, or involve far far more typing than you feel like doing at the moment, but giving us some pointers would help.
