I'm looking for a book that includes a good leftist analysis of the economics of the current "manufacture in China; sell in North America" supply chain model. For me, "good" would be something that includes lots of numbers about things like direct and indirect transportation costs.

Any recommendations?

Help me, francophones on my friends' list: how would you translate the word, "écœurante" (heartbreaking? disheartening? Something to do with heart?). The full quotation is:

En Haïti, ce sont 8,2 millions de francophones (plus que la population du Québec) qui vivent dans un état de pauvreté «écœurante», a constaté Denis Paradis au cours d'un premier voyage, en 2000, à l'époque où il était secrétaire parlementaire du ministre des Affaires étrangères, John Manley.

Edit: Ah! "Disgusting" or "nauseating". Sickening might be an appropriate translation.
