Unfortunately, things are getting worse in Haiti. This is the second Canadian kidnapping I've heard of.

Also, Jared Diamond talks quite a bit about Haiti in his recent book collapse. He fingers depletion of natural resources (trees and soil) as the culprit for Haiti's ecomomic woes...and sees little hope for a turnaround there.
