I dig your look, and I love your eyes
But conversation is a drag
I went to see Jory Nash at the Free Times Cafe last night. He had a woman named Alise Marlane opening for him. Alise had songs with great lyrics and songs with great sound, but none of the songs I heard had both. I tried to buy a CD at the end of the night, but I think she skipped out early.
Jory is probably my favourite local musician. He has such an amazing voice. His fan base has grown beyond what the Free Times can accomodate, but I still love seeing him in that venue.
I finally picked up his fourth CD, Spaz Loves Weezie (there's a whole story around that title), and I'm really growing to like the title track. I also think he should record some of the covers that he does. He does such a good "Fly Me to the Moon". He covered Nina Simone's "Blackbird" on lo-fi northern blues. I'd really love to hear him do "Sinner Man"; I think his amazing voice would do interesting things to it. Pity it's not a guitar piece, though.
Another cover I'd love to hear him do is Jefferson Airplane's "Comin' Back to Me", because I bet he could really nail that lovely, haunting guitar, while giving it a unique Jory sound.
