Now that the provincial Conservatives have a new leader, they want us to know that they're not going to be too right-wing.

I'm not sure what to think of it. On the one hand, they seem to have repudiated both Mike Harris and the Alliance in favor of the wing that came from the old PCs, so yay. But would it be better for the scary Alliance folks to have taken over the party, and made themselves thoroughly unacceptable to the Ontario electorate?

How many schoolkids, I wonder, are going to think that they named the party after John?

At the provincial level, the Alliance isn't really a factor. It's true that the provincial Progressive Conservative party "supports" the federal (not progressive) Conservative party, but there was never a provincial version of the Alliance.
