[livejournal.com profile] stonebender asked me about the neighbourhood of the new condo. In response, I'm writing this post.

The condo is located on Queen St. West, which, for many years, was the young, arty/alternative neighbourhood. It's been pretty infested with "hip" chain-store fashion outlets recently, but it's still a great neighbourhood.

I spent the night at the condo last night (none of my furniture is there yet), and when I woke up this morning, I went across the street to a great breakfast joint. The place has a huge, original Art Deco wall unit behind the counter. With little cupboards to keep milkshake glasses. It was an amazing piece of history. There were a half-dozen breakfast places within a block of the front door to my building.

Also, Trinity Bellwood Park is across the street. Just up the road a block is the Japanese Paper Place, and a bit farther along is Come as You Are, sex toy store extraordinaire.

I walked down Queen St. West, this morning. I passed the Cameron House and Sanctuary (one-time goth club now ironically converted to a Starbucks). I saw Squirly's, where [livejournal.com profile] the_siobhan and I have dinner every once in a while. I stopped in the Silver Snail and Lush. I looked in on the CityTV building, and caught a movie at the Paramount.

One of the coolest things about the area is that it inspires me to go out walking. I'm really darn close to the Ex.

Damn you make me really miss living in Toronto now... I used to walk up and down Queen from Roncesvales to the beach regularly (yes I know LONG LONG WALK, but it was fun!) I lived just off it over in Corktown for a while, just before the bridge that goes over the Don Valley, being that close to queen meant if I imbibed too much somewhere it wasn't hard to stagger home. I remember coming home from the Sanctuary more than a few times (yes I was a regular patron at one time before it closed) and more. Where I was there wasn't THAT much as East Queen is a little depressed though its going through gentrification for the last decade or so... slowly. But at Parliment and Queen there is a great little Pizza place that makes Cajun Creole Pizza if its still there. Having lived in Vancouver now for two and a half years, for all I know Toronto has totally changed and I wouldn't recognize it anymore.

I will have to visit eventually... but not yet. When I do I believe I have to make sure that bring a gift for Mz Strang of the local greenery.
