From distant climes o'er wide-spread seas we come,
Though not with much éclat or beat of drum,
True patriots all; for be it understood,
We left our country for our country's good;
No private views disgraced our generous zeal,
What urg'd our travels was our country's weal,
And none will doubt but that our emigration
Has prov'd most useful to the British nation.

-- from Our Country's Good by Timberlake Wertenbaker, based on an original poem by George Barrington

The first production of Our Country's Good that I ever saw left me in awe.

Is this in regard to the Tories who left the American Colonies for Canada (Ontario was it?), I think they were called the Loyalists?

No. The convicts who were sent to Australia. Our Country's Good is a play about the convict colonies, and an attempt to form a theatre company amongst the convicts (the leading lady is scheduled to be hanged).
