This is an interesting article. An NDPer (and member of Romanow's cabinet) concludes that Medicare is unsustainable.
Medicare is unsustainable with current arrangements because costs are rising faster than revenues, sucking resources from other vital areas like education, says the study by the Institute for Research on Public Policy.
Who are the Institute for Research on Public Policy? Well, Bob Rae is the chair of the board. Their 2003 Annual report says this:
The idea for the Institute came out of the federal government under Pierre Elliot Trudeau, who, along with the provincial governments, injected the seed money. Largely due to the leadership and fundraising talents of John Black Aird, the Institute’s second Chair, an endowment fund was created based on contributions from the private sector and various foundations.
Very interesting.
