... I'd reflect on this blurb from the article mentioned in my previous post:

Salon: With the success of Michael Moore's films and others, it seems like there is a growing trend of left-leaning, progressive, anti-corporate documentaries. Why is that?

Spurlock: I think that documentary is your last bastion for any truth today. It's the one place where you have no media conglomerate telling you what to say, the one place where people aren't going to put a vice on opinion and on fact. You can put something out that takes a stand and says, 'Listen, you need to know this.'

Then I'd wonder why The Carlyle Group would purchase Loews theatre group which is showing Fahrenheit 9/11.

In the end, how many Documentaries actually make it to mainstream theatres any how? Aside from Moore's work there's very little. But it is mildly humorous. You know, conspiracy theories wouldn't be so fun if they weren't so plausible. Time to play Illuminati again me thinks.

Let's see. In the last few months, I've seen The Fog of War (Academy Award winner, 2004), The Weather Underground (nominated), The Corporation (still playing), and Fahrenheit 9/11. I missed Capturing the Freidmans, but it was also nominated. Super Size Me is still playing.

But out of how many films released in that same period (vs. how many documentaries and how many of each made it to theatres?) I find it kinda interesting how the big theatre chain that was carrying this film got bought up by the group that they are talking about. Very ominous. Thing I find is though, most documentaries end up in rep cinemas or on television. There are those that make it through but the vast number find it very hard to find distributors. Which is too bad.
