I absolutely disagree with the Charles Rules, but I would, wouldn't I? (Actually, I think the major problem with those rules is that it trivializes all arguments down into taste-based "religious wars" rather that potentially matters of overturning the status quo in favor of more social justice. I am deeply suspicious of any set of rules that results in the comfort of the status quo.)
I am not a fan of "take it offlist/away/to private" because the sort of discussions I'm willing to engage in are at least as much about educating the onlookers (probably *more so*) as the actual respondent. Having to do this one-on-one for every clueless privileged-majority person would be exhausting to the disprivileged minority.
I *think* what you're saying about having privilege discussions with white trans women is the same as the one I've noted about my trying to have this discussion with a white Jewish man who'd grown up in Soviet Russia - PoC oppression in the U.S. didn't rate unless it was physical violence or legally enshrined, because those were "serious" and "real", just like anti-Semitism in the old Soviet system. I have, unfortunately, no answer to this, and concluded that 5 year experiment after encountering disastrous results.
