The weather in Toronto is practically balmy, and I wandered around my new neighbourhood. I have the apartment starting on Tuesday (although I'm crossing my fingers that the current tenants will be out this weekend, so I can get access to it a bit earlier).

Good things about the place:

  1. It's one block away from work.
  2. It's two blocks away from the subway.
  3. It has two bedrooms, giving me room for an office.
  4. It's a pleasant neighbourhood. Closer to Roncesvalles, it's clearly a middle-eastern community (mmmm... falafel). I've lived in a few very diverse neighbourhoods in Toronto. Rich-white-guy-village, Little Jamaica, Little Italy. I enjoy the stuff that give a community a distinct feel.
  5. There's a grocery store fairly close by. A Loblaws. I'm mostly okay with Loblaws. I've heard people say that they sometimes do stuff to screw over their trade unions, but I like the store otherwise, and really enjoy the President's Choice line of foods.
  6. Lots of places for friends to park if they're of the driving persuasion.

Bad things about the place:

  1. Few choices in terms of banks.
  2. It's got an "almost suburb" feel. A lot of cars. The grocery store is situated behind acres of parking lot.
  3. Restaurants aren't quite a plentiful (or good) as Little Italy.
  4. I'll end up seeing a lot of the place, 'cause I work only one block away.
