What's the last thing you ate?
I had a raspberry turnover with breakfast this morning.

What's your favorite cheese?
The most incredible cheese I've ever tasted was a Coulommier from France. I've only had it the once, but it was memorable. I'm usually very fond of a nice Brie. My fridge is usually stocked with some marble to put on a grilled cheese or tacos, though.

What's your favorite fish?
Probably salmon. I know that makes me boring, but I like salmon.

What's your favorite fruit?
I really like pears, although I don't have them often. And most berries. Raspberry, blueberry, strawberry. Certain fruits (like peaches or nectarines) I only like raw. Something like a peach pie tastes awful to me.

When, if ever, did you start liking olives?
Mostly as an adult. I don't eat a ton of olives, but a nice, briny olive in a greek salad. Mmmmm.

When, if ever, did you start liking beer?
Beer tastes rotten to me. Like, literally rotten. I've never liked beer.

When, if ever, did you start liking shellfish?
From the first time I had it. I liked all shellfish for most of my life.

What was the best thing your parent/s used to make?
My mother made a good pot roast. And turkey. There are certain weird foods that have sentimental value to me. Cream peas on toast.

What's the native specialty of your home town?
Boiled potatoes with a side order of boiled potatoes.

What's your comfort food?
Spaghetti.

What's your favorite type of chocolate?
Dark or bittersweet. I've had some good truffles with pepper spices that were really good.

How do you like your steak?
Medium rare.

How do you like your burger?
All things being equal. With cheese and fried onions. And ketchup, mustard and relish.

How do you like your eggs?
If I'm ordering in a greasy spoon, I'll probably try to get them poached. I also like them sunny-side up. Recently, my body has been craving hard-boiled eggs, so I've made those a lot.

How do you like your potatoes?
Elsewhere. I don't tend to cook with potatoes very often. I don't mind mashed potatoes or scalloped. I'll have those maybe once a year. French fries I'm okay with. If I never see another boiled potato in my life, it'll be too soon.

How do you take your coffee?
In bulk. With lactose-free milk and brown sugar.

How do you take your tea?
I'm not a big tea drinker. Most of the tea I've had in the last few years has been in Chinese or Japanese restaurants. I have ginger tea at the Thai place near my office. When I did drink more tea, I'd put milk and sugar in it, which my staunchly Irish grandmother claimed was a nasty English habit.

What's your favorite mug?
I tend to use some mugs from Strange Horizons quite a bit. They're a good size for a morning coffee.

What's your cookie of choice?
Gimme a gooey chocolate-chip cookie any day.

What's your ideal breakfast?
That probably varies. French toast is a favourite, but I don't make it often. Bacon and eggs with toast is great fun. I have a psychological block against pancakes.

What's your ideal sandwich?
I dunno. Hot pastrami from a deli, with a slice of actual cheese (no fake cheese, please) and sprouts. And mustard. Hold the pickle.

What's your ideal pizza (topping and base)?
I can eat a lot of different thing on pizza. Mostly, these days, I tend to get pepperoni, or pepperoni with onions.

What's your ideal pie (sweet or savory)?
Both of my grandmothers were pie makers. I think my favourite pie is pumpkin, but I've had a lot of good varieties of pie in my life. Several years ago, I went through a bout of making grasshopper pie from one of my grandmother's recipes. You can't get that very many places.

What's your ideal salad?
Pasta salad. With no mayonnaise. Mayonnaise is the devil's condiment.

What food do you always like to have in the fridge?
Cheese. (Grilled cheese is my "I have no motivation but I must have supper" food).

What food do you always like to have in the freezer?
Bacon. Chicken breasts.

What food do you always like to have in the cupboard?
Tomato sauce for making spaghetti.

What spices can you not live without?
Chili peppers. "Italian seasoning." Cinnamon.

Tomato sauces. BBQ sauces. President's choice peanut sauce. I like a lot of sauces.

Where do you buy most of your food?
There's a Dominion up the street, which is changing its name to Metro.

Once a week, probably. Usually on Saturday, I get my food shopping done. Butcher. Grocery store. (I've been getting more things at a nearby health food store, too).

I dropped a chocolate-covered almond the other day.

What's the last time you ate something you'd picked in the wild?
I picked raspberries a few years ago.
