DART deployed to Haiti
Sep. 11th, 2008 10:56 amI haven't confirmed this in a news source or Government of Canada press release, but one of my Haiti mailing lists mentioned that the Canadian government announced this morning that the Disaster Assitance Response Team is being deployed to Haiti. I know that they've been pondering this for the last day or two. That's a good thing, at least.
I do find it interesting the discrepancy in numbers of victims in news reports. About a week ago, I heard that almost five hundred bodies had been found. A US news programme I saw in the airport on Tuesday mentioned 660 deaths. Paul Farmer recently mentioned over 1000 dead and about one million left homeless.
CBC's article stating that DART might be deployed says "more than 300 are dead and tens of thousands are homeless." Hmm.
