I'm trying to remind myself of the good times with the Ex (who, from now on, I'm gonna call Borden). Here are my top 5 memories (Sei Shonagon-esque)

  1. The second time I went to WisCon, Borden had a big room party where she made jewelry; in exchange for her jewelry, she asked people to write haiku. Later she was telling me about a haiku that she found on the floor after the party ended. I smiled. It was a haiku that I had written and forgotten about.

  2. The first time Borden came to visit me in Toronto, we spent a day wandering around Queen St. West, looking into the various goth shops. Borden bought a gorgeous black dress. Of course, this meant that we had to go to the really nice restaurant at the end of my street for dinner. In the half-hour before we were about to leave, Borden made herself a set of earrings and a matching necklace to wear with the dress.

  3. Shortly after we first started seeing each other, I sent Borden a package of things that represented happy memories of the time we'd spent together. I filled a box with Jory Nash CDs, Coffee Crisp chocolate bars, a copy of The Maltese Falcon, a spoon with a cherry on the end (there's a much larger version of this in her home city) and a butt plug in a box adorned with an image of The War for the Oaks. Okay, that last item is kinda hard to explain, but relates to a story Borden told me about the author of that book.

  4. I sat in the apartment of an alt.poly person in Borden's home town, about a month before I sent my first ever geek flirt to her. Borden was there, and I was trying to figure out how to suggest that we get together for lunch without coming on too strong. Finally, she said, "you and I should hook up while you're here." Pitter-patter went my heart.

  5. At alt.polycon in Edmonton, six months before we started seeing each other (a month or so after we met each other face-to-face), I plonked a Coffee Crisp chocolate bar on the chair beside her. We had been talking about Coffee Crisp on the newsgroup, and she'd said something like "I will do any number of interesting things for Coffee Crisp."

As I write these out, I can still smile. I enjoyed those times. I'm trying not to let her current behaviour take those memories away from me.
