Fried eggs require HP sauce, which you mix with the nice runny yolk.

A good steak doesn't need a damn thing.

Heh, I just checked everything except steak. I'm a vegetarian and I do eat veggie dogs/burgers with ketchup. Come to think of it, when I did eat meat, I would put ketchup on steak. So I should have checked all of them.

Note that I don't think there should always be ketchup on all of this stuff. Ketchup is one possible appropriate condiment. I prefer sour cream on my mac & cheese (KD or otherwise), Bufalo chipotle sauce on my grilled cheese sandwiches, and tamarind chutney on my fried eggs.

For the most part, I think it's a matter of taste.
There are somethings, though, that I feel strongly do NOT get ketchup. Ketchup on hot dogs is an abomination unto the Lord, for instance. You might get a more enthusiastic response to that poll. (Which of these things do not get ketchup.)

Putting ketchup on a good steak is an abomination.

And if it isn't a good steak, you shouldn't be eating it.

None of the above. Ketchup is an ingredient in my barbecue sauce, which is the only reason why it exists in our kitchen at all.

Are we referring to our own preferences, or to how we feel others should behave? If the latter, I agree you'd get more accurate answers to a "What should you never put ketchup on?" poll that included notations of quality on other things than man 'n' cheese.

Now, if you want to see some really scary responses, try the same poll with mayonnaise. (I'll eat it on anything on your list except steak - and even then if it's, say, a steak sandwich.

"Potatoes" isn't specific enough. Catsup on homefries or hash browns == good; catsup on herbed new potatoes with garlic == crime against humanity.

Hot dogs need ketchup, but they need mustard more.
Hot dogs for *kids* generally need ketchup, and only ketchup, and lots of it.
Although when I was a kid, I think I put ketchup as well as mustard on hot dogs, but on *hamburgers*, no ketchup. Just mustard and dill pickles. Lots of each.

Now, ketchup on *steak*, *THAT* is an abomination unto the lord.

Agreed. And I checked ketchup on fries, but for me that's only if there's nothing more interesting available. Fries usually get Thousand Island dressing. Burger King fries get onion ring sauce.

Tater Tots want ketchup. Or, if they're crispy enough, just salt.

On hash browns ketchup is not bad. Well done hash browns just need salt, but blah ones need ketchup.

Other kinds of potatoes other than fries, hash browns, and tater tots don't want ketchup.

The other thing I used to eat ketchup on, back when I ate the stuff at all (before I was off cheese), was frozen pizza. I mean the cheap cardboard kind, Totino's and Jeno's and the like. And the old school pizza, which was pretty similar (cheap cardboard); lots of ketchup on that, to make up for the complete lack of flavor and moisture otherwise.

And Doritos. I mean, not ketchup on Doritos, Doritos on cardboard pizza. With the ketchup.

Oh, yeah... no ketchup on Doritos without pizza, but absolutely mustard on Fritos. My 16 year old eats that, too. In fact I just had some for lunch. Yum.

Apparently not :) Came from being with people who would use Ranch, which is full of milk whereas Thousand is not. But now I like the Thousand Island so much better that I'll prefer that even if there's a good soy Ranch available.

Amen!

So is ketchup on eggs. Or potatoes that aren't French fries, or... I can't even contemplate ketchup on macaroni or grilled cheese sandwiches without getting queasy.

using another condiment
