I picked up my Film Festival tix yesterday, and was happy to get all of my first choice films:

I purchased a simple 10-ticket package, and chose these films:

King and the Clown
A South Korean period piece about two clown in the court of a despotic king. Includes androgyny. Blurbage describes it as the Korean Brokeback Mountain.

The U.S. vs. John Lennon
A documentary about Lennon's activism, and about the establishment's response to that. "The thing the sixties did was show us the possibility and the responsibility that we all had," Lennon said. "It wasn’t the answer. It just gave us a glimpse."

Ghosts of Cité Soleil
This is the film I most wanted to get on my schedule. It's about two people from Cité Soleil -- the poorest slum in Port-au-Prince. One is an Aristide supporter, and one an opponent, leading up to the overthrow.

The Prisoner or How I Planned to Kill Tony Blair
In a previous documentary by this film's director, a man claiming to be a journalist was one of the people arrested in a raid in Iraq. Authorities felt that the group was plotting to assassinate Tony Blair. The director met up with this man again two years later. He'd been held at Abu Ghraib and other detention facilities for nine months before it became clear that there was no evidence.

Gambling, Gods and LSD
This Canadian film was made in 2002, but is part of a retrospective of the director's work.

Sleeping Dogs Lie
This is apparently a dark and uncomfortable-making narrative film about when full disclosure turns into too much information.

Un Dimanche à Kigali
A narrative film about a journalist's return to Rwanda to find a woman that he left behind during the massacre.

Sistagod
A Trinidad and Tobago film, part coming of age story and part spiritual journey. I'm not sure if it's gonna be Magical Realism or Magical Negro.

Made in Jamaica
A narrative film about music and dance culture in Jamaica. Another film I have reservations about, but I'd like to see it.

Macbeth
A contemporary adaptation of the Scottish play. I've seen every major filmed version of this play far too many stagings of it. It's my favourite Shakespeare. How could I pass this up?
