MINUSTAH mandate extended

The U.N. Security Council on Thursday extended the UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti for a year, expressing concern at increasing insecurity and calling for “credible and legitimate” elections next month.

A resolution adopted unanimously by the council authorizes the force “to support the political process under way” and assist the government in preparing and conducting the presidential and legislative elections.
