The Mathematics of Compassion

So I went to see the Dalai Lama today. Did you know it was the Panchen Lama's birthday today?

The Dalai Lama was not at all what I'd expected. I guess I expected... I don't know. Force of character, or something. Instead, he told us stories about how lazy a student he was and how he knows so little mathematics.

He said one thing that I thought about for awhile: that peace is not the absence of violence. It's not that you take all of life, subtract the violence and you're left with peace. "Peace is full", the Dalai Lama said.
