André Boisclair has won the Parti Québécois leadership race. Unless things turn around in a hurry for the Quebec Liberals, he's likely to be the next premier of Quebec, too.

Boisclair is an openly gay man, and his admission that he once used cocaine was widely-reported. Some reporters speculated that his openness about such things made him seem honest and down-to-earth, compared to politicians who recite canned speeches and trot out talking points. Boisclair won the leadership on the first ballot.

Well, I guess a leader who has his 'faults' out in the open is better than one who's faults you have to find out later ;> Oh and "YAY Quebec" the ol' ancestral homeland ;>

I hadn't been following this before at all. So I read this morning's Globe, and a couple of articles discussed the cocaine thing, and there was nothing at all about him being gay. Isn't it nice that it isn't news?

The Montreal Gazette mentions that he's gay in noting that it doesn't seem to be an issue, even with older and rural voters.
