Listening to Ani DiFranco today. Ani rocks.

just do me a favor
it's the least that you can do
just don't treat me like i am
something that happened to you

[...]

so i let go the ratio
of things said to things heard

- from "Adam and Eve"

i want my old friends
i want my old face
i want my old mind
fuck this time and place

- from "Out of Habit"

and i don't blame it all on you
but i don't want to be your friend

- from "Letter to a John"

i'm not trying to give my life meaning
by demeaning you
and i would like to state for the record
i did everything that i could do

- from "32 flavours"

I was talking to Jason, today, about Ani. He seems to think that she's a man-hater. I don't quite understand that perception, myself.

uh, there's the bit where she's married to a man. i'd say that pretty conclusively disproves that theory.

seems like any time a gal has an opinion on anything, or writes songs with emotional content, Macho boyz are pointing their fingers with the accusing "man-hater" label. *sigh* Personally, I think its because they are lacking themselves and being thus limited cannot relate the the female emotional/intellectual side. My ex. Justin doesn't like many female performers and i've noticed this trend in many of my straight male companions. I wonder why they have such a hard time finding appreciation in good music performed by women? now you've got me thinking....hmmmmm....

Not to mention the conniptions people fly into whenever the word "feminist" comes out.

I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is. I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat."

- Rebecca West

Howareya, by the way?

Um, I wouldn't exactly say that was conclusive. Y'know?

Ani's amazing. Saw her live last year for the first time and I was in awe. What an incredibly beautiful, radiant and personable performer. And incredibly talented as a poet. The words that come out of her mouth are incredibly lyrical. Wow again.

I hope I see her again sometime.

Presuming he's not just a beard, it's not hard to see that finding one man a decent human being is a lot easier than finding that men, in general, aren't collectively assholes.

me? I'm still hurting. Stupid doctor. "well, I ADVISE you to stay off that foot." Hello!!! I'm a waitress and a dancer. What are the chances I'll stay off my feet? Other than that I'm feeling really nostalgic lately. keep watching some ol' dance videos, and anxiously counting down until September 1st. How are you?

Heh. Well, at least you have your medical insurance now, eh?

Other than that I'm feeling really nostalgic lately.

For California? And your coven?

and anxiously counting down until September 1st.

Tell me about it. I want garlic. :-)

Plus, being married to a man doesn't necessarily preclude hating him.

i was locked
into being my mother's daughter
i was just eating bread and water
thinking
nothing ever changes
and i was shocked
to see the mistakes of each generation
will just fade like a radio station
if you drive out of range

- from "Out of Range"

No, I don't think she's a man-hater. Though I had an ex-boyfriend who was convinced of that too (or at least that she was too "angry" for him).

I just feel like she has something to say to/for me, whenever I come upon something new in my life.
