Thoughts of WisCon
May. 30th, 2005 11:34 pmFast thoughts:
To sleep... perchance to dream...
The opening skit had trucks like you wouldn't believe. And they made fun of people who wear berets. I feel so marginalized.
My WisCon badge had a big "B." on the first line. The second line said, in smaller font, "C. Holmes". People actually asked me if my name was B.
Programming was really, really good.
kalmn does good program. I also saw her back tat.
Victor Raymond is an incredible speaker. I think I could listen to him for hours and hours and hours.
I'm not convinced that I'd put "Norse" into the category of "lesser-known mythologies".
I think there should be lifelines on WisCon panels, like they have on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire. Especially the lifeline where you can eliminate two of the four panelists.
I'd like to do another panel with Rob Gates. Actually, I think it'd be neat to do the same panel with Rob Gates again some time, but where we invoke the lifeline.
I was very happy that the Trans Feminism panel worked out well. There were times when I really wanted to kick someone in the shins, but I thought that might destroy the sense of safe space we were trying to develop. In the end, the safe space was probably more productive than kicked shins would have been.
I'm secretly very grateful to
lcohen for letting me burble.
I was in a different hotel on Saturday night. For some reason, they upgraded me to the largest suite in the hotel. The largest suite in the hotel comes with a candy dish, a jacuzzi bathtub and books to read. There was both a life of Clinton book and a life of Bush book amongst the titles. Diversity at work.
Ellen Klages is a funny, funny woman.
I should have bid on the spacebabe.org e-mail address. I'm kicking myself. But I also wonder if they'd ever give out spacebabe at spacebabe.org.
I am really impressed at how powerful the "Maybe WisCon should tolerate Republicans" panel was. I have mixed feelings about the premise of the panel, but I am impressed by the process.
Have I mentioned that it was a really good WisCon. I wish things were better at work and I didn't have to bail early.
I want a top hat.
