Prius Goodness
May. 8th, 2005 02:02 pmMail from the Ministry of the Environment:
Dear Vehicle Owner,
I wish to advise you that Ontario is exempting hyrid vehicles -- powered by a combinaion of internal combustion engine and electric motor -- from Drive Clean testing.
...
The exemption helps Drive Clean maintain the integrity of the program by recognizing that existing test methods are inadequate for these types of vehicles and ensures that the program continues to be fair and effective in the treatment of vehicle owners, without causing an increase in harmful vehicle emissions.
Our records indicate that you were required to have an emissions test for your hybrid vehicle. A cheque in the amount of $37.45, being the cost for the Drive Clean test that was required for your vehicle, will be sent to you in the next three weeks.
Have I proselytized about the Prius lately?

Date: 2005-05-09 03:21 pm (UTC)I think Honda is going to start making a hybrid Civic or Accord (forget which, and it may already be being made). Since all those models sold in the US, if not all of North America, are made here in Ohio, I wonder if the hybrids are being made in Ohio, too. If so, I'd be inclined towards one of those, since I have a family member who is an engineer over at Honda. I try to stick to autos made in Ohio (thus my Cavalier), because our economy is bad enough as it, and it needs any support it can get.
As for the cheque, you can rest assured that if Ohio suddenly exempted hybrids from our emissions testing program, the state wouldn't refund the US$25 fee (biennial) that was paid. The state probably couldn't afford to pay out those refunds, anyhow. Not without cutting more from the social services or education budgets.
