Summary of Bill C-38, which is currently at first reading.
This enactment extends the legal capacity for marriage for civil purposes to same-sex couples in order to reflect values of tolerance, respect and equality, consistent with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It also makes consequential amendments to other Acts to ensure equal access for same-sex couples to the civil effects of marriage and divorce.

If passed, this act would make same-sex marriage legal in the remaining 5 provinces/territories.

I love that the bill is so short. Elegant solutions ...

I didn't think Paul Martin would turn out to be so... useful. He doesn't just sit up there, you know?

Do box turtles form long-term same-sex romantic relationships?

I'm making a reference to a stupid comment made by an American senator several months ago:

"It does not affect your daily life very much if your neighbor marries a box turtle. But that does not mean it is right... Now you must raise your children up in a world where that union of man and box turtle is on the same legal footing as man and wife."

-- Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.), advocating a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage in a speech Thursday to the Heritage Foundation.
