Brian Mulroney got two terms in office. The next election, his party was defeated so completely that they won only two seats. The party never recovered. But then, Canadians are naive.

And I think Bush's re-election is going to ensure that we don't have a federal Conservative government for the next for years.

:-)

And I *still* don't know what that had to do with my comment!

Probably worth keeping an eye on where the Conservatives are getting funding from, though. The usual method of containing Liberal hubris and corruption is to send them into exile for a term but the current choices for their temporary replacement are the Conservatives, (who I think might charitably be described as would-be treasonous bootlicking lackies to the Cousins, and in particular to the Reds) and the NDP (who still have not realized that candidates who look heavily medicated are a bad choice).

Can the NDP be reformed in time to form a viable alternative to the Liberals? Being able to show that the Conservatives are drawing funds from south of the border might help the NDP look less awful (Ideally, the US ties of the C's could even be true but it's believable and we can work with that). We can survive a term of the NDP, whereas I am not sure we'd still be independent at the end of five years if the Conservatives get in.

Another alternative is nothing but Liberals for the next 50 years, like the Big Blue Machine in Ontario, in which case we'll probably get to see what infinitely arrogant and corrupt look like.

I think that with four parties vying for power, we have more scenarios to entertain than just "who forms the government". The combinations of minority and coalition governments can also result in interesting situations.

I really, really, really don't ever want to hear the word "interesting" used in connection with our federal government.
